James Pierce is a seasoned nonprofit leader specializing in executive search, strategic planning, organizational development, and professional transitions. He brings decades of experience guiding mission-driven organizations toward growth and impact.
James served for 13 years as CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia, where he partnered with a 35-member board and a 120-member staff to dramatically expand services for youth. Under his leadership, the organization’s operating budget grew eightfold, and the organization completed multiple capital campaigns beyond the core budget.
Prior to his nonprofit tenure, James worked in public education as a teacher and K–12 school principal in Virginia. His commitment to youth development and equity has earned him national recognition, including the Robert M. Sykes Award for Professional Excellence from Boys & Girls Clubs of America (2015), the John E. Baker Legacy Award from African American Teaching Fellows (2016), and the Champion of Youth Award from the Virginia Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs (2022), where he served consecutive terms as Alliance President. In 2024, H.E.R. Sports honored him as a Lifetime Ambassador for his volunteer advocacy in girls’ athletics.
James holds degrees from William & Mary and the University of Virginia, and is a certified executive coach through the University of Georgia.
