John Betts, President & Chief Executive Officer, McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited, began his career with McDonald’s in 1970 as a Crew Member in Southampton, New York. He then held numerous roles of increasing responsibility in the areas of operations, field service, training and purchasing throughout the U.S.
Throughout his career, Mr. Betts has been recognized as an outstanding contributor to the global McDonald’s system, receiving numerous awards including the prestigious Presidents’ Award, reserved for the top 1% of McDonald’s employees globally.
In 2008, Mr. Betts took on the role of President & CEO for the Canadian business. Under his leadership, McDonald’s Canada has achieved incredible business momentum, increased annual sales and guest counts, undertaken a comprehensive restaurant re-imaging program, and introduced relevant menu enhancements like McCafé – making McDonald’s a leading destination for premium coffee.
John’s passion for the McDonald’s brand is brought to life by a strong focus on responding to the needs of McDonald’s guests and employees – and exceeding their expectations from coast to coast. McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited and its Canadian franchisees own and operate over 1,450 restaurants and employ more than 100,000 Canadians.
John has received several industry awards recognizing this same passion for connecting with consumers. He was honoured with the CEO of the Year in Public Relations Award from the Canadian Public Relations Society, and has also been inducted into the American Marketing Association’s Marketing Hall of Legends as one of the industry’s biggest thinkers and influencers.
In addition to his role as supporter and board member of Ronald McDonald House Charities, John also sits on the Advisory Board for Catalyst Canada. John lives in Toronto with his wife Bridget and their two children.

As President & CEO of Plan International Canada – the country’s premier girls’ rights organization – she leads a dynamic team of professionals, delivering over $250 million annually in high-impact programming. With two decades of experience leading top-tier nonprofits, Caroline has a proven track-record of taking organizations to new heights, while improving the lives of millions of people both here in Canada and around the globe. Under her leadership, Plan International Canada has consistently reached record highs, been recognized with multiple awards for culture and performance, achieved ground-breaking fundraising results, significantly increased its reach in Canada and around the globe, and become the go-to organization for bold and innovative advocacy for girls’ and children’s rights. At Plan, Caroline successfully delivered on an organizational transformation that took Plan from the 7th to the 2nd largest charity in the country.
As the youngest person to ever lead a major Canadian charity, Caroline consistently strives to find new ways to deliver critical social change, while cultivating a thriving company culture. She has received seven Stevie Awards for Women in Business, including Canadian Female Executive of the Year, has been recognized as one of WXN’s Most Powerful Women in Canada for two years in a row, was appointed to the Order of Vaughn for her contributions to the philanthropic sector and is also a TedX speaker. Caroline holds several board positions, including Board Chair of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Toronto Chapter and has served in governance roles with the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CAN-WaCH), the Canadian Marketing Association and the Humanitarian Coalition. She is a graduate of McGill University, Harvard Business School’s Nonprofit Leadership program and is pursuing a Master of NonProfit Leadership from Carleton University.
Caroline is widely regarded as an expert and published contributor in the charitable sector, regularly writing and speaking on the topic of gender equality and the power of youth. Her consistent desire to defy the status quo, and tackle the root causes of inequality, guide her vision to create a world where everyone can unleash their full potential. In February 2019, Caroline will be joining Trillium Health Partners Foundation in the role of President and CEO, with a mandate to transform philanthropic support from the community and support Trillium Health Partners to realize its vision of delivering a new kind of health care for healthier communities.
