The National Audubon Society is seeking a Senior Director of Climate Strategy

Are you ready to take the lead in the fight against climate change? Audubon is seeking a dynamic Senior Director of Climate Strategy who will report directly to the Vice President of Climate. In this pivotal role, the Senior Director will be at the forefront of shaping and executing Audubon’s climate program objectives, collaborating with Audubon’s extensive network of state and local offices and chapters specifically as it relates to transmission and the powerful movement toward a clean and modernized grid.

What the Senior Director Will Do: The Senior Director’s responsibilities will extend beyond mere policy advocacy; they will champion the rapid deployment of renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and offshore initiatives. Leading a dedicated team of transmission advocates, the Senior Director will drive progress at the state level, ensuring Audubon’s mission for clean energy and transmission aligns with Audubon’s priorities. The role will involve representing Audubon to external audiences and funders, offering technical guidance to regional offices, and nurturing a growing team to success.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, communications, marketing or related field required; an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • 12+ years’ progressive, professional experience in government relations, advocacy, public relations, development, and/or public service, including time spent leading successful policy and grassroots campaigns and at least 3 years in a senior level role.
  • Working, if not extensive knowledge of the electric grid and clean energy policy as well as strong connections with leading experts in the field and with funders of climate change work is essential.
  • Exceptional project management skills; including overseeing complex or multiple projects through to success, meeting financial goals and project deadlines, and coordinating the work of key staff and partners.
  • A self-starter, one who is able to work collaboratively with staff on multiple career levels.
  • Experience engaging with grassroots constituencies on policy matters.
