Chief Financial Officer – CAF America

CAF America - Remote, VA

The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) exists to accelerate progress in society toward a fair and sustainable future for all. Over the last 100 years, we have led the way in developing innovative approaches to giving. Annually, we distribute over $1.4 billion to social purpose organizations around the world.

The Chief Financial Officer serves as CAF America’s chief financial strategist and fiduciary leader, ensuring the highest standards of stewardship, transparency, and long-term sustainability. A trusted advisor to the CEO and Board, the CFO translates complex financial and investment information into clear insights that drive decision-making and mission outcomes. This is a foundational, transformational role—the CFO will help shape the next Strategic Plan (launching May 2028) while leading, mentoring, and scaling a high-performing finance team.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead multi-year financial strategy, long-range planning, and scenario modeling aligned to CAF America’s priorities and growth ambitions
  • Build organization-wide financial clarity and literacy, inspiring shared ownership of financial health
  • Lead and develop a high-performing finance team, with the Controller accountable for day-to-day operations
  • Partner closely with the CAF UK CFO and CAF Canada to align financial principles and governance
  • Provide executive leadership for investment oversight and governance with the Board and Finance & Risk Committee
  • Guide periodic reviews of investment policy to support prudent, long-horizon fiduciary management
  • Drive finance systems and process modernization, including the transition to Sage Intacct
  • Maintain effective relationships with auditors, banks, investment managers, and insurers
  • Maintain an enterprise risk lens over internal controls, segregation of duties, and delegated authority
  • Ensure adherence to legal, tax, and reporting standards for foundations, DAFs, and charitable assets

Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; master’s in finance or business administration preferred
  • Current CPA licensure, preferred
  • Experience in organizations that manage philanthropic or stewarded assets—community foundations, DAF sponsors, endowments, or grantmaking institutions
  • Experience working with boards and board committees in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
